Exhibition Statement
Mortal/ Immortal (2013) is a group exhibition organized by Diagram ARI, featuring contemporary reflections on mortality from the perspectives of six visual artists; Ali Bezer, Mitchell Donaldson, Emma Leslie, Jess Quinn, Genevieve Reynolds, and Jared Worthington. Each artist explores mortality and its counterpart - immortality - from varied perspectives, including contemplative introspection, paranoia, unrest and destruction, youthfulness, and sensory perception. Expressions of death and mortality have been prominent throughout the history of the creative arts, often conveyed with high drama. However, the artists in this exhibition have tempered the dramatic with quieter statements on everyday reality, calm academic inquiry, and the intimacy of personal gesture.
