Exhibition Statement

Noisewall is both the title of Ali Bezer’s installation artwork and solo exhibition in 2016, following her three-month Autumn studio residency at The Wall Artspace in Miami, Gold Coast. This residency provided the opportunity to be immersed in the lifestyle and natural environment of the surrounding coastal community. The ocean soundscape was a defining attribute of place that Bezer responded to, both in terms of the distant white noise and the more defined sound of waves crashing the coast. Bezer’s installation is a visual interpretation of the timbral qualities of this soundscape, while also reflecting on the way this trademark sound penetrates through walls and seeps into dwellings. It is both an outdoor sound that defines place while also becoming an indoor sound separated from its context.

Rebecca Ross, Exhibition Blurb, 2016. Ali’s residency and exhibition are a joint project by THE WALLS and the national sound art organisation Liquid Architecture.
